Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteer work in the community. He is the youngest child from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. Both brought him up on the farm they owned in Eufala. Also, he was one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. All three were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the nation's top lineman. In the three seasons he was Oklahoma's starter they went three-and-a-half and won two championships. On his third scholarship, he was named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work throughout his time at college. After college he settled in Tampa where he played nine years with the Buccaneers played all-pro three times, before beginning a new business career. In 1988 he became an account manager for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the United States' the top 10 most promising young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in his height and weighed 256 lbs at the time he played in college. He was captain of the team in 1975. He joined his current position at University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. In 1988 his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into both an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
